using indicator plants to determine crop development

Welcome!

Gary Martens, an instructor in the Plant Science Department, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the University of Manitoba, has developed a profoundly simple method of measuring and predicting crop development using observed development events in common wild and perennial plants.

Plant development is largely driven by heat accumulation.  Growing Degree Days (GDD) are a measure of heat accumulation and can be correlated to plant development.
