OfficeSmarts announcementForget about the hype, what’s a blog anyways?

In simple terms, a blog is defined as a “web log”, something like a journal or dairy, made available on the Internet.  Your blog can be on whatever topic you choose - gardening, favorite sports team, do-it-yourself projects, whatever; there are no limits.

Although blogs were originally intended to be a forum for sharing your unique personal interests with other people, blogging is increasingly being used by corporate business as well to communicate with their customers [read more]. With the help of blogging software, people with little or no technical knowledge can manage their own blog.

Think a blog is “no big deal”, think again!  There are over 70 million blogging web sites on the Internet today.

Lee LeFever has put together an excellent video titled “Blogs in Plain English”, which you can see at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN2I1pWXjXI.  After this, you should have a pretty good sense about a blog, and maybe you have already decided to start your own!

OfficeSmarts announcement When you come to think about it, cookies are not all that bad!  They were created to make your on-line experiences less cumbersome and more convenient.  By inserting a small text file onto your computer, cookies are able to remember your shopping cart items, remember your password, or even remember your personal contact information so that you do not have to re-enter it again on the same web site.

The downside of cookies occurs when some companies use them to track information about you that has nothing to do with providing you convenience.  For example, advertising companies are using them to track where you’ve been on the Internet, purchases you’ve made, etc. and in no time, they have built up a rather accurate profile of your Internet activities without your knowledge.

Your best defense is to become informed.  There are a few web sites that provide you with a good understanding of the use of cookies:

Also understand that you have a choice.  You can choose to block cookies [read more].  Whether cookies are useful or harmful depends on you.
